I stayed in a so-called five-star hotel (I choose not to mention the name here) few weeks ago in southern India. It was interesting what I noticed here one night. I came back to the hotel and went to a wash room. There were couple of housekeeping guys already there. There came in 2 non-asian indian nationals and washed their hands. When they were done, housekeeping guy just came around with a tray of hand towels and offered one to each. He then stood aside and I walked towards the wash basin, washed my hands and I managed with paper towel there. Why the difference? Was it taught to housekeeping people to do so? were they instructed like wise? Or is there some other reason?

hi…i think there would be some other reason…no way that people are discriminated in 5-star hotels…

Probably! – Or, perhaps it was a co-incidence then

Hi Ram, 5 star or 7 star they treat non Asians as in the rich ppl who can give them tip of big amount. No doubt, they get preference everywhere.

Nidhi,
That could be the reason. I noticed the difference when I tipped somebody at some other instance and at different place.
I have another post being drafted with respect to tipping… and will post once it is complete.
