Sanskrit – संस्कृतम्

We were talking about Sanskrit language (संस्कृतम्) for some reason and our discussion went on for some time – talking about the scripts, as a spoken language, etc., Surprisingly, I had such language related discussions with few people today. Once about spanish in different parts of the world and later on about Sanskrit. I recently heard, Germany has a university where you can go get a degree in Sanskrit Literature. As we don’t know the exact reason, we tried to make some assumptions – whether German grammer is similar to Sanskrit? or is there a script that matches – No, i don’t think either of these? what do you think might be the reason? I searched on internet but couldn’t really get information about that.

Well talking about that, I thought of sharing some of the resources on the web:
wikipedia – Has a great information of the history of sanskrit as a language. It also has wealth of resource pointers where we can get more information to learn from.
SamskritaBharati
SamskritaPradeepika
American Sanskrit.com
Sanskrit Far from Real  – Has alphabets, numbers and how they are pronounced, etc.,

and many more.. i will Update this post as I obtain more information. There are in fact, forums and meetup groups around in states. I am looking for one in Seattle area.

I wanted to share about my involvement and excitement about Sanskrit.  Coming from the great background in Bangalore, We were always used to chant vedic mantras and they are of course, vedic chants are written in Sanskrit – so that made us to be fluent with chanting irrespective of the meaning those lines meant. As I came along I had a chance to take this language in school and participated in local shibiras (association) and that made me learn more.

If you, by any chance, come across the information about Sanskrit meetup groups in Seattle area, please let me know.

  10. @Aparna,
Great to hear that you are a gold medalist in Vedic literature.
My wife and I are thinking of contributing towards a vedic classes cause in Bangalore. We exactly do not know when it actually happens, but we have that goal in our minds.
