Keep doing right things – Results will be transformed in some form …

Neela posted a beautiful inspiring short story about a moral behind reading bhagavad-Geetha (any spiritual book) irrespective of one understands it or not.

I recently experienced a similar instance at home with our toddler daughter. We have been playing spiritual chants/songs/mantras ever since she was an infant. Back then we did not have any expectations of her, but when she started saying few words clearly when she was around 2 years, we started teaching her few shlokas (chants), there we raised the bar and started expecting her to repeat after us, not understanding that

she was a Toddler and she would do just the opposite of what we said. Sure, at times, we got frustrated, we made her sit at one place and causing her cry, she got angry those initial days. Then we thought, give her some time, let her start speaking more words.

This time around since she was 2.5years (thats about 7 months ago), we just started saying those chants, doing right things irrespective of whether she repeats or not. We would sure still suggest her but not force her. Within 2 months, what we realized was, she was saying those chants all by herself while she was playing with blocks, and other toys. She would help us in kitchen and she would say those words at that time.

Then On, she has learned many such shlokas. It appeared that although she was in her own world playing with toys, her ears and observation were always all around. She heard us and she seems internally memorized them. She has now started saying the singing the ones we play on music system every morning.

So what we learned, was not to force her with our high expectations, but help her and guide her through at a lower pace (than we wanted). We remembered the saying “Slow down to Speed Up!“.

To get back on my initial reference to Neela’s story, Keep doing the right things, and not expect the results from that Karma – chances are Results will be poured in much better way than we would expect.

It was an inspiring story, Thank you for posting it, Neela.

  1. Hi Ram

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I am a father of a 4 year old daughter and at times we too go through similar situations. So its good to know that results will follow and that we should keep doing the right things.

  3. It will get better and more fun. My 10 year old barely practices his Carnatic music. But yesterday he was playing football on his Xbox 360 and singing all his songs :-).
