Mathematics at the Market place

See the picture below. This is from http://www.Bing.Com (Aug 22, 2009).  Although the billing counter is not shown in the picture, the billing is often almost done by one of those people at one of the ends or at times they take the turns for billing.


However, if the picture did show the billing counter, it would probably not more than a box. Those folks are with no calculators, no computers but well versed with mathematics. they also keep track of people buying things and provides an amount at the end of the transaction for respective individuals accurately.

It is quite a challenge to remember all the amounts, people and the items they buy at such a busy market. We usually see every stores having a POS (Point of Sale) machines; and those guys on the streets – are well equipped with Mental Mathematics – Amazing…
