Seeds Vs Grapes

In conversation with 5yr old on grapes and seeds, and how the grape seeds are planted to get the grapes while she was eating red grapes and how she didn’t like those because of seeded grapes. and asks, if these seeds are planted to get the grapes, how are seedless grapes planted when there were no seeds. … and so also seedless Oranges, seedless Pomegranates, etc?

Bawarchi (1972)

We watched a Hindi movie titled “Bawarchi” on TV  this evening. I had heard of this movie long time ago but had never watched it before. It was starred by Rajesh Khanna, is a real funny movie with a same amount of people involvement and a story around a big family staying together where a cook gets involved with the family and helps them refine their personalities and understand each other.

How many times have you gone to a seminar or a personal development class and realized, “Oh! I already knew this”  “oh! looks like nothing new, and I know most of these” and yet, deep inside you hear “hmm.. I knew but haven’t been behaving that way”.  So we realize our inner personalities and regain the faded talents. We then polish those traits and make it better to set and uphold our personal brand.

I liked what the character said at the end of the play: “All I did was to help them refine/re-shine their own personal characteristics and understand each other within a family”

It was a great movie over all…

We also noticed something interesting.

1. There was a scene where a bunch of teachers read out the news paper and comment “Is there anything other than murders, thefts, etc on this newspaper?” well, this movie was made in 1972 (about 36years ago). Now, Fast forward 36 years, take out any general news paper and read the headlines (exception financial and sports magazines), and is there a day where there was no murders, no thefts, no harassment discussed? So this has been the same 35years ago and it is the same today. I know we often say, those days were golden, those days were great, blah blah blah. But I just realized, there are certain things that never change.

2. There was another scene where an eldest of the family (Head of household) says, “in our times, we used to wake up as early as 5:30am and get lot of things done, people of this age don’t realize and not wake up until 10am” –> fast forward 36years, how many times have you heard this or similar lately?

Wall Street or Wal-Mart Street?

Recently in one of the conversations around here, some one mentioned about Wal-Mart Street. I was a bit puzzled to understand what it was and I asked if it was intentionally said so or by mistake for Wall Street, NY. Later he explained that due to the roller coaster in stock market,  stock prices have dropped so much and as most people say items in Wal-Mart stores are fairly affordable (cheaper) compared to other bigger stores.

8.8.8

Isn’t this a great memorable day? 8th of August, 2008. I don’t know if this has any significant stories like others we had come across viz., 1.2.3.4.5.6, however, to-date I remember 3 such instances but not really the others.

a. 8/8/88: I took a typewriter exam during my school days

b. 6/6/6: It was just before I left for India on a business trip. My wife and I took a day off from work and went around the city, ate outside, went to a movie ( i don’t remember the name); we took our then 15month old daughter to the swimming pool and had a great time.

c. 7/7/7: unfortunately, I wasn’t really feeling well during this time. However, my wife’s parents were with us visiting here. We drove from LA to Las Vegas after eating at a Udupi Palace restaurant @Artesia, CA. Once reached Vegas, and while checking in at the hotel, we noticed many celebrations and hotel rooms were sold out (we had pre-booked anyways) and the receptionist said, the day has been busy that there were lots of weddings scheduled for that day, and that’s when we realized it was 7.7.7!!

I don’t remember what I did for 9.9.99 or 2.2.2 and others…

I didn’t realize until this morning about 8.8.8 so do not have anything specially planned this time.

what does "one at a time" mean?

… according to my 3 year old, it is “Listen to me first!!” – Here goes the conversation scenario usually…

3yrOld V: busy with either singing herself or crafting with paper an scissors or coloring pictures…
people around: chatting with each other…
V: V chimes in and says ” Mommy, one at a time” “Daddy, one at a time – listen to me – why did so and so and all they Why questions“

2 seasons: Winter and ….

I was at a local attraction this morning. A tour guide introduces herself and gives a little bit of background of this area. It was a beautiful sunny sunday today however, she made a nice comment on the weather in this area. “Oh! Seattle has only two seasons (a) Winter (b) July”

Few days ago, when we were talking to another person and when the weather related conversation came up, he said “Did you say it was raining this morning, oh! anyways, We have only 2 seasons in this area : (a) Rain and (b) Rain” 

So that sums up the weather in Seattle is like, yikes!  🙂

UFO in Seattle area?

 

Someone I met this morning said, “did you see the UFO this morning while driving up here? It was a bright shiny object that we haven’t seen in 8 months!!!”

that’s right, although we had a bright sunny day a week ago, however it has been over 8 months since we saw the bright sun and clear skies like we have had this week or more of today with the temperature upto 99 degrees this afternoon.

Over worked … under paid…

I was on the metro transit this morning. Two techies (I realized ‘coz they later talked about 2008 bits, computers, ship dates, etc…) walked in at one of the bus stops and sat next to my seat. They greeted themselves, appeared to be have known each other riding the bus at the same time often, I think. Here goes the conversation:

Person 1: good morning,
person 2: good morning, how are you doing?
person 1: very well. How about yourself?
Person 2: okay! as usual.
Person 1: as usual!! Over worked! …. Under paid! ?
Person 2: (aggreably) yeaahhhh.. things move on…
